In the second post of our ROTM blog, the topic of choice is three-point shooting and how any player in the National Basketball League of Canada is capable of knocking down shots from beyond the arc.
Whether it's 6-foot-8 centre Ricky Volcy or 5-foot-10 point guard Alex 'Superman' Johnson, anyone on the Mill Rats roster can get the ball and sink a shot from downtown. This is not only the case for the Mill Rats, but for each and every team in the league. As we call the game live on the livestream from our courtside area, this is something we notice no matter which team is in town to take on the home squad.
Above we mentioned Ricky Volcy. Just this past Thursday night, February 12th, we witnessed the Montreal, Quebec native make two three-point shots in just over 20 minutes of floor time. The likes of Alex Johnson and the long-ball specialist Johnny Mayhane had the same number, going 2-for-5 and 2-for-6 respectively from outside.
We saw this again, in the same game, with the Island Storm. They've got guys like Mike Martin and Olu Famutimi, both big forwards, putting up shots from outside with ease. Not one guy in this league is not a threat.
Now that's not to say that coaches are looking to get the ball to their 6-foot-11 centres for the game-winning three, but if it comes down to it and they are left open, any player has the ability to make that shot.
